SVLT Receives Maine Outdoor Heritage Grant for Local Conservation

The Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund recently awarded Saco Valley Land Trust $23,000 towards their Conservation Bridge Campaign in Biddeford.  The Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund receives funding through dedicated Maine Lottery scratch tickets. Twice a year their board reviews and selects project proposals from Maine non-profits; this year providing support to 52 projects that support wildlife, education and conservation projects.

Larger, connected conserved land is crucial to maintaining healthy habitat and outdoor recreational opportunities.  SVLT’s Conservation Bridge Campaign focuses in an area in western Biddeford, designated by the State of Maine, named the Biddeford/Kennebunkport Vernal Pool Complex.  The Trust seeks to work with willing, conservation-minded landowners to add strategic lots which will improve access and connectivity to our current holdings of in-fee land and easements in this area, currently totaling nearly 600 acres.
SVLT, which is celebrating its 30th year,  has also received funding for this project from the Davis Conservation Foundation and the Fields Pond Foundation.  Locally, we received a gift from Saco & Biddeford Savings, UNE Sustainability Club, and supporting SVLT members, and are currently accepting donations via the following link:
